On 6th September 1620 at the third attempt The Mayflower left Plymouth with 102 passengers and a crew of 30.  One of the leaders was Edward Winslow, a Droitwich man who was educated at The Kings School, Worcester.  Winslow was also one of the founders of Thanksgiving Day, first held in December 1621 when the 50 surviving members of The Maylower were joined by 90 Native Americans to celebrate the first harvest for the Pilgims.  It is a Public Holiday in the USA today.
